Trina Turk Wants You to Help Design Her Fall Collection

L.A.-based fashion designer Trina Turk, who operates a lifestyle brand under her name, is partnering with crowdsource design platform Threadless to design a print for her Fall 2013 collection.
Bold, colorful prints — all infused with a cheery, California vibe — are Turk’s signature, and she’s seeking a pattern that compliments that aesthetic.
The winning submission could make itself onto a variety of items: a cocktail dress, a throw, perhaps a jacket for Turk’s ready-to-wear men’s line, Mr Turk.
You can submit patterns and/or vote on others’ submissions at threadless.com/loves/trinaturk until Aug. 23. The winner will receive $2,000 in cash, a $2,000 Trina Turk gift card, a $500 Threadless gift certificate and any pieces from the Fall collection that feature the winning print.
The collaboration is a step up for Threadless, at least in terms of price point — a Trina Turk dress typically costs between $200 and $350. Although Threadless has partnered with large retailers including Gap (for t-shirts) and Bed Bath & Beyond (for a variety of home products, including duvets and wastebaskets), none of those items were priced above $50.
This is the second collaboration Trina Turk has launched this summer, beginning with a line for Banana Republic. As The Los Angeles Times noted in June, Turk is in “brand-building mode,” rolling out new products lines — including jewelry, stationery and bedding — and revamping her Palm Springs boutique. Collaborations like these are helping her build brand awareness among new consumer groups.
