Facebook Timeline Coming to Most Members by the Fall

It was only a matter of time. Facebook will be rolling out its Timeline format to most members by the fall, according to sources close to the situation.
The social network aims to have members switched to Timeline in the next few months to make the experience consistent across the site.
Although Facebook made Timeline available in December to users in one click who wanted to opt in, the company announced in January that it would be making a greater push to introduce it to introduce it to randomly selected members. The site implemented a seven-day preview period for users to hide or edit content before receiving the format.
In addition, millions of people switched to Timeline on their own terms each week. Soon enough, all remaining Facebook members will have the latest version.
Users will still have seven days to curate their Timelines, and this clock will depend on the rollout and when they log in.
Nothing will change with user’s privacy settings when switching to Timeline.

Bonus: How to Fill Out Facebook Timeline Without Annoying Your Friends

After enabling the new design via the Facebook Timeline page, you can explore and customize your page without publishing anything. Do all of your trial-and-error work first -- that way friends only see the final product and not all of the updates you made along the way.
Facebook has an easy-to-follow "Tour" feature that walks you through how to set up Timeline when you're in preview mode. It recommends you start with your cover picture since it's the first thing people see on your page. The tour also adds useful information, such as telling you that -- similar to profile pictures -- cover photos are public, so choose wisely.
Since the Facebook Timeline cover picture takes up a good portion of the page, it's easy for a big image to come across as loud, especially if it's a close up. If you're shy in general, go for a landscape or stock picture instead. CoverPhotoFinder.com -- which was created by two former Facebook interns -- has some good options if you don't want to use one you've taken. The site allows you to search by nature, architecture, abstract and animals. Remember, every time you select a cover picture, Facebook saves it in a new photo gallery, similar to how it saves previous profile pictures. Clean up the gallery before you push it live.
Facebook does a good job of displaying memorable photos, events and experiences on the Timeline layout, but maybe you don't want to highlight what Facebook wants to highlight. Scroll back to the beginning of the Facebook Timeline (via the dates on the right-hand side of your page) and navigate through the years to make sure you're OK with everything displayed. Start with some of the earlier years since you likely had a smaller network of Facebook friends back then and may have forgotten what's been posted.
Control the size of certain posts by hovering over a story and clicking the star icon to expand certain items. Click on the pencil icon to hide posts.
Visit your Activity Log for a full view of everything you've posted to the site. You can go through the items one by one and make edits, so no one has to know how many cat photos you've liked over the years.
The good news is that only you and your friends can post directly to your timeline. But if you want to take it a step further to have full reign over your page, block friends from tagging you in their life events. To do so, open the account dropdown menu at the top-right corner of Facebook and click Privacy Settings. Located next to the "How You Connect" option, click on "Change Settings." From the dropdown menu next to “Who can post on your wall?” choose "Only Me." The "How You Connect" section also allows you to customize who can see posts by others on your timeline and who you want to comment.
