Amazon offers currently enrolled college students six months of free Amazon Prime membership, which means free two-day shipping and discounts on special merchandise.
After six months, Amazon offers students Prime memberships for $39 per year, $40 cheaper than the standard rate. Could be a great way to decorate your dorm room and buy school supplies!
Especially leading up to back to school, Sony introduces new deals every week — you'll find discounts on Vaio laptops and DSLR camera bundles.
Like Apple, Sony also has a healthy collection of refurbished products in its outlet.
Intel offers students discounted access to its developer tools. Get the Intel Software Development Suite for Linux or Windows for $129, or for Mac for $49. The package includes Intel's C/C++ and Fortran compilers, performance and parallel libraries and its branded Cluster Studio. (Product suites vary between Mac and PC.)
Microsoft also offers free developer tools to students through its DreamSpark program.
Norton offers up to 50% in savings for antivirus software. Get basic protection for as little as $19.99. It's important to make sure your student's computer is well-protected — many universities won't allow students to access Wi-Fi without proof of antivirus software.
